What a Home Inspection Entails

The best way to understand what a home inspection is about is to review the Standards of Practice which the link below will open for you.  The standards will tell you what is covered, what is not covered, and basically what you should expect.  In Canada and Alberta there are specific items that are checked or not checked.  If you are new to the process, this is a short but informative read.

Values for Home Insulation

Building Code Values for home insulation are ever evolving.  What was acceptable 50 years ago is now not enough insulation.  Does that mean you need to upgrade?  That is a choice you decide by inputting cost of new insulation and energy saved.  Below are the current building code values, older homes won't meet these levels.

Tips for placing wells

Provincial regulations outline minimum distance requirements as follows:

  • 10m from a septic tank

  • 15m from effluent field

  • 12m from power lines

  • 3.25m from buildings

  • 6.1m from road boundaries
